Instagram post ideas for cafés

Running out of things to post is the most common reason a café’s Instagram goes quiet. Here are ideas you can use this week, grouped so you can pick one from each.

Updated 22 October 2026

Behind the counter

  • The first pour of the morning, filmed as a short Reel.
  • How you make your signature drink, start to finish.
  • Where your beans, milk or bread come from, and the people who supply them.
  • Setting up before opening: chairs down, lights on, first batch out of the oven.
  • A mistake that went wrong in a funny way, and what you learned.

The menu

  • This week’s specials as a carousel, one dish per slide.
  • A new item, announced the day before it arrives.
  • The most-ordered thing on the menu, and why people come back for it.
  • Seasonal changes: the first pumpkin bake, the last iced drink of summer.
  • Dietary options in one post, so people can save it and check later.

People

  • Meet the team: one person, one photo, one line about them.
  • A regular’s usual order, with their permission.
  • Staff picks: what the team actually eats on their break.
  • Thank-yous to suppliers, neighbours and other local businesses.

Community and moments

  • Local events you’re part of, and how to find you there.
  • Opening hours for bank holidays, posted a few days ahead.
  • Small Business Saturday on the first Saturday of December.
  • Rainy-day comfort, hot-day cold drinks: post for the weather you have.
  • A question for your followers, such as which special should come back.

Making it a habit

Ideas only help if they go out. Pick three a week, write them in one sitting, and schedule them for when your customers are scrolling: before work, around lunch, or early evening. Keep a list of ideas you haven’t used yet, and re-share the ones that do well a few weeks later.

In Smartplannr, write each post once, tailor it for Instagram and Facebook, and put it in a posting slot. A weekly special can repeat by itself on Plus.
