Social media ideas for online shops

Your products are the content; the trick is showing them in more ways than a product page does. Here are ideas that suit an online shop, a weekly plan you can keep up, and a note on keeping offers honest.

Ideas that suit an online shop

  • New in: this week’s arrivals as a carousel.
  • How it’s made, packed or sourced: a short behind-the-scenes Reel.
  • In use: the product doing its job, in a real home or on a real person.
  • Customer photos, shared with their permission and credited.
  • Questions you’re asked most, answered one post at a time.
  • Back in stock, and what’s about to run out.
  • Gift guides before the dates that matter: Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas.

A simple weekly plan

  1. MondayNew in, as a carousel, with a link to the collection.
  2. WednesdayBehind the scenes or the product in use, as a Reel or a TikTok.
  3. FridayA customer photo or a weekend offer, with a clear end date.

Post the same idea to every network, but tailor each version: a short line for X and Threads, more detail for Facebook, and the link in your bio on Instagram, where captions can’t link.

Sales and price claims

Keep offers honest. If a post says “was £40, now £25”, the higher price should be one you really charged, and a deadline should be real. Say when an offer ends, and end it then.

Doing it with less effort

In Smartplannr, upload up to 15 product photos at once and get a caption for each in your brand voice, make a price-tag image in your brand kit, and on Plus add tracked links so you can see which posts send people to your shop.

Questions

Three times a week is a good start: new products, something behind the scenes and a reason to buy now.

Instagram captions can’t hold links, so use a link in bio page with a button for each collection, and say “link in bio” in the post.

Add UTM tags to your links so your shop’s analytics shows which post sent each visit, and compare the posts that drove sales.
