Before you start

You need a YouTube channel on your Google account. Smartplannr uploads through YouTube’s own API, so the video lands in your channel like one uploaded in YouTube Studio.

How to schedule a YouTube video or Short

  1. Connect YouTubeIn Smartplannr, open Settings, then Social Accounts, and sign in with Google.
  2. Add the videoA square or vertical video of up to three minutes goes up as a Short; anything else as a normal video. Smartplannr decides from the file.
  3. Add a title, description and thumbnailA title of up to 100 characters, a description of up to 5,000, and a custom thumbnail as a JPG or PNG.
  4. Schedule itPick a date and time. The upload starts within five minutes of that time, and YouTube then processes the video before it’s watchable.

Sizes and formats

  • Videos: 1920 × 1080 (16:9) for normal uploads.
  • Shorts: 1080 × 1920 (9:16) or square, up to three minutes. YouTube makes the final call on what counts as a Short.
  • Thumbnails: 1280 × 720 (16:9), JPG or PNG. Make one in your brand with Smartplannr’s branded images.

What to do in YouTube Studio

YouTube’s upload API doesn’t cover everything, so a few settings stay in YouTube Studio:

  • Picking one of YouTube’s own auto-generated thumbnail frames.
  • Playlists, subtitles and live streams.
  • Comment settings and age restrictions.
  • Premieres. A scheduled video is uploaded at its time rather than premiered.
